Press Release - BRUCE OAKE RECOVERY CENTRE OFFICIALLY BREAKS GROUND
Winnipeg - The Bruce Oake Recovery Centre is set to break ground today on what would have been Bruce Oake’s 34th birthday. Bruce is the son of Scott and Anne Oake who died from a drug overdose in 2011. The Oakes, along with Bruce’s brother Darcy, decided then that they wanted to bring something positive from their tragedy. The goal of the Bruce Oake Memorial Foundation is to build a treatment centre to help those struggling with addiction.
“We are thrilled that this day has finally arrived and we are extremely humbled by the outpouring of support from Manitobans. Together we are one step closer to saving many lives,” said Scott Oake.
Today also launches the centre’s Capital Campaign co-chaired by Winnipeg Jets Captain Blake Wheeler, Ace Burpee of 103.1 Virgin Radio and Sheila North, former Grand Chief of MKO. The goal is to raise $16 million. To date the foundation has raised just over $11 million including $3.5 million which was raised last evening at the 2nd Annual Hockey Night in Canada fundraiser with co-hosts Ron MacLean and Jann Arden.
The 50-bed long term addictions treatment centre for adult males will be open to serve the community in the spring of 2021.
